Twice A Victim: First Burglars, Then The Government Security Monopoly – LOF #22

Twice A Victim: First Burglars, Then The Government Security Monopoly

Co-host Jackson Trigg joins me to tell the story of how his house was burglarized, and why he was forced to interact with the State because of it.

We also discuss private alternatives to the State’s security monopoly, restitution ideas, and why libertarians have more compassion for criminals than the State does.

Read Mike Tront’s “A Private Criminal Justice System” and check out the Level Headed Libertarian blog.

Should You Vote For Gary Johnson . . . Or Should You Vote At All? LOF #19

gary-johnson-pic

Should You Vote For Gary Johnson . . . Or Should You Vote At All?

With the 2016 presidential election just 11 days away, should you vote for Gary Johnson? Should you vote at all?

Aaron Keith Harris joins me and my co-hosts Brian and Carrie to make the libertarian case for voting for Gary Johnson. We also discuss the philosophical ins and out on voting.

Is it morally justifiable?

Is it an act of aggression?

Does your vote matter?

Will your vote even be counted?

Is there value in Libertarian Party candidates even if you don’t vote?

Read Aaron’s article making the case for Gary Johnson.

Libertarian Christians – Oxymoron or Perfect Fit? – LOF #18

The Sermon on the Mount Carl Bloch, 1890

Libertarian Christians – Oxymoron or Perfect Fit? – LOF #18

Dr. Norman Horn, founder of Libertarian Christians Institute, joins me and co-host Jackson Trigg to explore the sometimes contentious and controversial subject of libertarian Christians.

Here’s some of what Norman, Jackson and I discuss:

  • How the church I attended as a teenager used fear tactics and peer pressure to get people saved so they woudn’t have to spend eternal life burning in hell
  • What is a Christian?
  • Christian statists — from the left and the right — and why it’s not all their fault
  • How the bible portrays the State
  • Is Christian libertarianism more anarchist or minarchist?
  • The hypocrisy of right-wing Christians who claim to be “pro-life” yet are also pro-war
  • The libertarian Christian perspective on abortion
  • The phony Republican solutions that right-wing Christians stubbornly and hopelessly cling to
  • Different perspectives on the end times (do most Christians believe in the rapture?)
  • Why Norman started Libertarian Christian Institute (and some exciting new developments with LCI)
  • And much more!

Raeford Davis: Ex-Cop Turned Libertarian Drug War Critic – LOF #14

raeford-davis-pic

Raeford Davis: Ex-Cop Turned Libertarian Drug War Critic

Raeford Davis spent four years patrolling the streets of North Charleston, South Carolina arresting hundreds of innocent people in drug charges. Now he’s gone straight and speaks out against the State’s Insane War on (Some) Drugs.

Here’s some of what Raeford and I discuss:

  • What Scott Horton and I have in common (that Raeford agrees with)
  • Why Raeford became a police officer
  • What patrol officers do (besides busting people for harmless drug offenses)
  • The cop who once did me a “favor”
  • One profession that is far more dangerous than being a cop
  • What Raeford did when a perp tried to shoot him with a pistol
  • Why Raeford took a position as an SVU detective
  • What made Raeford leave the police force (and why he would have left soon after regardless)
  • Why neighborhoods in North Charleston look exactly the same as they did 10 years ago when Raeford was patrolling the streets
  • The secret reason President Nixon ramped up the War on Drugs in the late 1960s and early 1970s
  • Two possible reasons a cop let me go even though I was smoking pot while driving
  • Why Raeford believes individual cops are not racists (and how the system is to blame for targeting minorities for drug enforcement)
  • The police-industrial complex and how it creates tension among the public
  • Why Raeford believes drugs should be legalized and regulated
  • Two possible reasons Baltimore cops didn’t protect private property during the riots
  • Why cops almost never get convicted for deeds that would land you or me in jail
  • Is there such a thing as a “good cop”?
  • The military mindset among cops that is even more dangerous than the military equipment they get from the Pentagon
  • The mission of LEAP (and Raeford’s role in the organization)
  • And much more!
